MY EXPERIENCE USING TOO GOOD TO GO APP IN MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA FOR CHEAP FOOD

Too Good To Go Australia - Hey everyone, If you’ve been following my youtube channel, you’ll know I’ve been experimenting with the Too Good To Go app—a fantastic initiative that helps reduce food waste by connecting customers with cafés and restaurants offering surplus food at discounted prices. It’s like a treasure hunt for foodies, and honestly, who doesn’t love a good surprise?

I've been using this app actually since september last year. At that time, the choices were limited, but now in melbourne so can easily find so many options! I bought more than 50 times of surprise bag from their app! I would say the cheapest one is from $5.99 and the most expensive one so far is $12.99

This week, I decided to try out one of the offers from Sir Charles, a popular café located in Fitzroy, Melbourne. For just $7.99, I picked up a surprise bag that turned out to be an absolute delight.

The Pickup

How to use this app is so simple and easy. I placed my order through the app earlier in the day. You will see from the app, the cafe that you want to book, they already put the range time for pick up. For example 'Collect today 2:00pm - 2:30pm' or 'Collect tomorrow 9:00am-11:am'.

So I headed over during the designated pickup window. The staff at Sir Charles were super friendly and efficient—they handed me a neatly packed paper bag with a smile, and I was out the door in under two minutes. Quick, easy, and exciting!

The Surprise Inside

First let me tell you the reality for surprise bag. Based on my 50+ surprise bags experience here's the things that I can share.

- Checking the review is a must
You can easily see the review of the place on the app, for example Sir Charles have 4.7/5 it's pretty good! I will never pick up something from a place with a review 3.5 stars or below.

- Cafe is always the best
in my experience, getting surprise bag from a cafe / bakery / sushi place is always a good thing! I will never pick up from a grocery shop or supermarket again in Melbourne, I've collected from 3 different grocery shop to test. They are pretty bad! They give rotten fruits that looked alright but when you eat it, you'll know and too bad I can not change my review.

Normally the grocery shop will give you things that gonna be expired next day or in 2 days like that and it's not gonna a good thing like how you gonna finish a cereal in just a day or goji berry in a day.

So yeah I prefer to collect from a place that give a ready to eat food and you know they make it fresh everyday.

Sir Charles Surprise Bag

Now, here’s the fun part—what did I get?
Inside the $7.99 bag were eight beautiful pastries. Yes, eight! Look at my picture!

Every item was still fresh enough to enjoy later that day or even the next morning with a quick warm-up. And if you’re someone who loves variety in their breakfast or afternoon snack, this bag was perfect. It tasted amazing I loved it!

Value for Money?

Absolutely. Considering a single pastry at most cafés in Melbourne can easily cost around $5, getting eight for under $8 felt like hitting the jackpot. Not only did I save money, but I also helped reduce food waste and supported a local business. Win-win-win!

Final Thoughts

This was my first Too Good To Go haul from Sir Charles, but it definitely won’t be my last. I love the mix of surprise, value, and sustainability that the app offers. It’s also a great way to discover new spots around Melbourne that I might not have visited otherwise.

If you're in Melbourne and looking to try Too Good To Go, Sir Charles is definitely worth checking out. Just remember: every bag is different, so part of the fun is not knowing exactly what you'll get!

Have you tried the app yet? Got a favourite surprise bag in the city? Let me know in the comments—I’m always looking for my next delicious discovery. 😊
